Newcastle 5-1 Tottenham: Spurs official Twitter account sums up mood perfectly

Tottenham finish the Premier League season third, behind Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur went into this weekend knowing any point against Newcastle United would assure them of a second-placed finish.

On paper it looked simple.

Spurs needed to get a result against Newcastle United at St James’ Park, a club who could not beat Aston Villa last week and have been relegated to the Championship.

But they lost, 5-1.

It was a shocking display from Spurs who missed the presence of Dele Alli in an atrocious performance.

To make matters worse Newcastle had a player sent off in the game, Aleksandar Mitrovic.

To make matters even worse they now finish in third place, behind their fierce rivals Arsenal – to whom they have gloated all season of finishing higher.

To sum up the game and the day for Spurs fans then look no further then their official Twitter account. They summed it up perfectly with this tweet immediately after the game:

Spurs will of course still be in the Champions League next season but the poor run of form toward the end of the season just goes to show the team still lacks the depth needed to compete at the top end of the Premier League.

Improvements will need to be made in the summer after an embarrassing end to the season.
