David Ginola suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 13) that Southampton manager Ronald Koeman may not be interested in taking charge of Everton.
Everton are on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Roberto Martinez on Thursday.
Former Everton attacker Ginola, though, is not convinced that the Dutchman would swap St. Mary’s Stadium for Goodison Park.
“Taking over Everton for Ronald Koeman after a fantastic season with Southampton is a possibility obviously, but I am not sure,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle star on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 13).
“Maybe he is going to think, 'Well, maybe having another season with Southampton will be relevant at this stage', thinking, 'If I have another great season, I might get a better job challenging places for the Champions League or challenging for the title'.”
Everton have had a disappointing season in the Premier League and have finished outside the top 10.
Southampton have had a strong season, and many will question why Koeman would leave the Saints in the summer.
Of course, anything is possible in football, but the former Valencia coach is having a good time at St. Mary’s Stadium.
It would be wise of the former Barcelona star if he remains at Southampton for one more season and then look to move to a bigger club.
