Arsenal managed to finish above their North London rivals.......again.
St Totteringham's Day - or, the day in which it becomes impossible for Tottenham Hotspur to finish above North London rivals Arsenal - was celebrated by Gooners aplenty this afternoon as the curtain fell on another memorable Premier League season.
Spurs went into the final day knowing that a point away to relegated Newcastle United would see them achieve what hadn't been done in 21 years: finish above Arsenal - but it all went terribly, terribly wrong.
The Gunners, beginning the day in third, applied some early pressure when Olivier Giroud opened the scoring at home to bottom-of-the-table Aston Villa, before Georginio Wijnaldum's goal against the Lilywhites saw Arsene Wenger's side move second.
Aleksander Mitrovic then doubled Newcastle's lead as Tottenham - who had taken two points from their previous three games, collapsing their Premier League title bid in the process - gave themselves a big mountain to climb with 45 minutes to go.
Erik Lamela threw them a lifeline by reducing the arrears, before the prospective comeback was given a further boost when Mitrovic was dismissed, but 10-man Magpies went on to score three more times to cap a 5-1 win, while Giroud added two more over at the Emirates to complete his hat-trick in a 4-0 victory.
Tottenham had somehow contrived to finish below the Gunners, and suffice to say Arsenal fans enjoyed the collapse - a lot.
