Paul Merson tells Aston Villa to sign Norwich striker Cameron Jerome

Merson believes Villa should pounce for the Norwich marksman.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports, broadcast May 13th, that Aston Villa should sign Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome this summer.

Aston Villa were relegated to the Championship this season after a disastrous campaign for the club.

Many are anticipating it could go wrong for them in that division considering the widespread turmoil currently enveloping the club.

A whole revamp of the playing squad is expected this summer given how poorly they have performed in this Premier League campaign.

Their squad has been sorely lacking in a striker since Christian Benteke joined Liverpool in the last summer transfer window.

And Merson believes they should target Jerome as he will score the goals they need.

“Jerome is one of those players, he’s too good for the Championship but not good enough for the Premier League,” he told Sky Sports.

“If I was Aston Villa, I would buy Jerome tomorrow morning, I think he’ll score you goals and he works hard.”

Jerome could certainly be a smart acquisition for Aston Villa given his experience in the Championship.

There is a widespread belief the club should not only appoint a manager with Championship experience but players of the same ilk.

Jerome certainly fits into that bracket and has starred in the division in the past, making him a smarter buy than many would actually consider him to be.
