Faustino Asprilla tells Mike Ashley to get out of Newcastle United

The Colombian cult hero is not a fan of the Newcastle owner.

Newcastle United have been relegated to the Championship again this season, for the second time under the ownership of Mike Ashley.

The club failed to stay up with Ashley heavily criticised, along with the rest of the board, for taking too long to replace the flagging Steve McClaren with Rafa Benitez.

The Newcastle owner is highly unpopular among the Newcastle faithful, including one former cult icon at St James Park.

The man in question is Faustino Asprilla. The Colombian remains a popular figure with the Newcastle faithful after an eventful two years in the North-East.

He has been regularly tweeting about their poor form in recent weeks and he has done so again this weekend.

He sent out this tweet, calling on Mike Ashley to step down as Newcastle owner:

Of course many have called on Ashley to leave for some time with no joy.

In fairness he did dig deep into his pockets in the winter transfer window, with the likes of Andros Townsend, Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet all arriving at the club and he also spent big in the summer.

But the inability to be rid of McClaren, although not entirely his own fault, appears to have been the final straw for many – including Asprilla.
