Departing Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Robert Green predicted on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning (broadcast from 10am, May 12) that Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City will reach the final of the Championship playoffs this season.
Wednesday, Derby County, Hull and Brighton & Hove Albion will feature in the Championship playoffs this campaign.
The Owls will take on Brighton in the two-legged semi-final tie for a place in the playoff final. Former Premier League sides Derby and Hull will contest the other semi-final tie in the playoffs.
For the first legs of the ties, Wednesday and Derby will be at home, with the matches being played on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
Green, who will leave Championship outfit QPR at the end of June, has backed Wednesday and Hull to progress to the final of the Championship playoffs.
“If Derby can take a lead going into Hull, I think they can go on and win the tie,” the goalkeeper said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning (broadcast from 10am, May 12). “I think in both games, the first leg is critical.”
“I would probably say maybe a Sheffield Wednesday-Hull final,” added Green.
Brighton will head into the tie against Wednesday as favourites, mainly because they were far better than the Owls in the ‘regular’ Championship campaign.
However, over two legs anything is possible, and Carlos Carvalhal’s side will certainly fancy their chances.
It is hard to separate Derby and Hull, as both have strong squads. This tie could go down to the last minute, and it should be cracking affair for the fans.
