Paul Merson believes Newcastle and Tottenham will draw on Sunday.
Former Premier League star Paul Merson believes Tottenham will claim a draw against Newcastle to clinch second place, labelling it an 'absolute shocker' if they slip up.
Merson was speaking to SkySports ahead of the final weekend of the 2016/17 league season.
Spurs need just one point to be guaranteed second spot, with Arsenal on their tails. The Gunners are two points back but have an inferior goal difference.
Tottenham travel to Newcastle United, and their task has been made considerably easier by the fact the Toon suffered relegation in midweek.
Merson forecasts a 1-1 draw, and added: "If Spurs don't get a draw it would be an absolute shocker. I reckon they will get the point they need.
"Newcastle are down but they have to put on a show for their fans. They can't just go there and lie down after being relegated, they will have to make it a hard game for Tottenham otherwise the fans will get frustrated."
Merson believes his former side Arsenal will demolish Aston Villa in their game, predicting a 4-0 victory.
The Gunners gave themselves a chance a week earlier by claiming a 2-2 draw away to Manchester City, while Tottenham have failed to win three successive games, drawing 1-1 with West Brom, 2-2 with Chelsea, and losing 2-1 at home to Southampton.
Key man Dele Alli and Mousa Dembele will again miss their upcoming match through suspension.
