Everton are set to take on Norwich City at the weekend.
David Unsworth has confirmed to Everton’s official Youtube channel that Tim Howard will start against Norwich City.
Howard is set to leave Everton at the end of the season, but he was promised by Roberto Martinez that he would be handed the opportunity to start against the Canaries.
Martinez was sacked yesterday, meaning that Howard’s place in Everton’s team was put into doubt again.
However, Unsworth says that he is fully prepared to pick the American international as a reward for his excellent service to the club.
“Tim will play,” Unsworth confirmed. “He deserves that. He’s been a fantastic servant for this football club. Hopefully he’ll get the send off he deserves.”
Howard has been at Everton since 2006, and he has gone on to make 412 appearances for the Merseyside club.
The 37-year-old has dropped out of Everton’s first-team this season, however, with Joel Robles replacing him as the club’s number one.
Despite Howard’s selection against Norwich, Unsworth confirmed that there would be no room for sentiment behind the rest of his team selection.
"No, there won’t be [any other players selected whose contracts are expiring]," he added. "Tim was promised that by Roberto and I want to honour that. But we’ll pick a team that will hopefully beat a Norwich team."
Everton head into the match against Norwich having won just one of their last 10 games. They could slip down as far as 16th with a defeat.
