Alan Shearer makes a prediction about Newcastle fans

Newcastle United will play in the Championship next season.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has predicted in The Sun that average attendance at St. James’ Park next season could go down.

The Magpies have been relegated from the Premier League and will play in the Championship next season.

Newcastle went down to the Championship at the end of the 2008-09 season, but they bounced straight back to the English top flight.

During the 2009-10 campaign in the Championship, attendance at St. James’ Park was high.

Former Newcastle striker Shearer expects average crown numbers at the club’s home matches next season to be fewer than they were the last time the club were in the Championship.

“I watched Sunderland’s 3-0 win over Everton on Wednesday night in a pub with some pals, all of us Newcastle fans,” the former England international wrote in The Sun.

“Some of them didn’t renew their season tickets last year and I’d be surprised if the others do now. Last time Newcastle went down their average attendance was still huge.

“But I suspect that might be different this time around because the people at the top of the club are just not learning.”

Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs of England and regularly get over 45,000 fans for their home games at St. James’ Park.

The fans are far from happy with the club’s current situation, but they should be backing the team.

The players will need the supporters in the Championship next season, and the fans should stick with the team.
