Sunderland hosted Everton on Wednesday evening as they sought to get the win they needed to ensure their Premier League survival.
They did just that as goals from Patrick van Aanholt and Lamine Kone saw them to a comfortable 3-0 victory and the points they needed.
The defender has been sensational since arriving in the January transfer window, providing the base the Black Cats had sorely needed for some time.
He was one of several players to arrive in that transfer window, and Higginbotham says that work has been key to their survival via Twitter.
Key 4 @SunderlandAFC was the Jan signings. Bought what was needed. The likes of Newcastle bought good players but not ones needed at time— Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) May 11, 2016
The Black Cats will now be hoping that this will be the last time they are scrambling for their survival as the season draws to a close.
There is certainly a wave of optimism that Allardyce can do ensure just that, with him having established a number of teams in the Premier League.
If they are to change and challenge further up the table in future, then the former West Ham United man will be hoping he can enjoy the kind of success he enjoyed in the last transfer window to help them do so.
