Richard Keys has recommended that Everton appoint Stoke City boss Mark Hughes as their next manager.
The Toffees have sacked Roberto Martinez, after deeming that his position at Goodison Park had become untenable.
The Spanish boss had faced growing calls for him to be sacked in recent weeks, and Everton’s form was getting worse rather than better.
Everton were stuck in 12th place in the Premier League table, after winning just one of their last 10 games in all competitions.
Although Everton are a club famed for their patient approach, the Toffees’ board decided that Martinez could no longer stay in charge.
Everton are now on the hunt for a new manager, and Keys believes that Hughes would be a great appointment.
Step 1 - sack Roberto Martinez. No surprise there. He lost the dressing room + fans. Step 2 - appoint Mark Hughes.— Richard Keys (@richardajkeys) May 12, 2016
Hughes has done an impressive job at Stoke since taking over from Tony Pulis.
The former QPR manager has transformed the Potters style, and ensured that they have comfortably retained their Premier League status while doing so.
With Everton expressing a desire to start challenging for a top four space, Keys now feels that Hughes is ready for a new challenge and he has backed the Stoke boss to make a big impact at Goodison Park, if given a chance.
