Fans desperately want to keep the Spanish manager on Tyneside.
The Shields Gazette has reported that Newcastle United fans will convince manager Rafael Benitez to stay with the Championship-bound Magpies by staging a mass show of support for the manager in Sunday's end-of-season visit of Tottenham Hotspur.
United's relegation was confirmed on Wednesday night when Sunderland thrashed Everton 3-0 at the Stadium of Light to secure their own safety but demote their bitter North-East rivals.
Of course, the big question on Tyneside is now whether Benitez - who replaced Steve McClaren in March, signing a three-year deal - will stay with the club when they're plying their trade in England's second tier next term.
Being a Champions League-winning coach who has managed Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, life in the Championship would be something of an eye-opener for the 56-year-old, though it was reported by The Star that he is considering it.
And according to the Shields Gazette, Newcastle fans will look to seal the deal for the visit of Spurs by showing the Spaniard just how much they think of him.
Indeed, Benitez is clearly a hugely popular figure at Newcastle, winning two, drawing four and losing three of his first nine games in charge Two of those draws came against Liverpool and Manchester City, but one also came at Aston Villa on Saturday in what is arguably the result which cost them.
Still, he has made a big difference since replacing McClaren, and with a summer of transfer business under his belt, Newcastle could well come straight back up.
