Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that Chelsea should make a move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge in the summer transfer window..
Sturridge was on the books of Chelsea from 2009 until 2013 when he switched to Premier League rivals Liverpool.
The England international struggled for playing time at Stamford Bridge, but at Anfield he has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has struggled with injury problems, but when fit, he is truly brilliant and is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.
Former Arsenal attacker Merson believes that Chelsea should try to re-sign Sturridge in the summer transfer window.
“I would also go back for Daniel Sturridge,” the former England international told Sky Sports regarding Chelsea’s summer transfer plans. “I don't see a problem with him going back to Stamford Bridge. He's had his injury problems but he's the best around.”
Sturridge has scored eight goals and created seven chances in 14 Premier League matches so far this season.
The England international has a pass accuracy of 79% and a shot accuracy of 55%, and has won five headers, 13 dribbles and one tackle.
Liverpool are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment, while Chelsea are 10 points behind them in ninth.
