While they are below Leicester and Tottenham in the table right now, Paul Merson believes Arsenal will win the league next season.
Paul Merson has given an early prediction for next year's Premier League title winners.
Speaking to the SkySports Fantasy Football Club podcast, Merson said that he is tipping Arsenal to go on and win the league next year, despite faltering this time around.
Leicester City stunned everybody by winning this year's title, showing just how unpredictable football can be, shaking up the established order.
He said: "I think eight or nine teams could win it, I really do.
"If someone said pick someone now, I always pick Arsenal cos I always fancy Arsenal because they always got that potential."
The problem for Arsenal is that potential has proven over the past decade not to be enough to close the deal.
They have not won the title since 2004, and manager Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure.
The way Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United faltered this season gave the Gunners a golden chance, but they could not take advantage and sit behind Leicester and rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the league table with one game to go.
Next season there could be more doubters than ever that Arsenal can finally do it as their rivals come back stronger, but Merson at present, is not one of them.
