Newcastle United have been relegated to the Championship.
Sunderland’s 3-0 victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday evening consigned Rafael Benitez’s side to Championship football for the 2016-17 campaign.
The Newcastle players trained today, and the mood was that of disappointment and dejection, the club’s Head of Goalkeeping has disclosed on Twitter.
Tough day at work;sometimes this game really tests your'love' for it! Disappointed, frustrated, annoyed-back tomorrow! I kick it;you catch it— simon smith (@simonsmithgk) May 12, 2016
Newcastle will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at home in the Premier League.
The players will be determined to put on a show and win the match to give the St. James’ Park faithful some optimism for next season.
The Championship is a very tough and competitive league, and the Magpies will not find it easy to finish in the top six.
What Newcastle need to do is appoint a manager who knows the league inside out - if Benitez leaves - and then allow him to make the signings in the summer transfer window.
