Tottenham will take on Newcastle away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The North London outfit will finish second in the league this season if they pick up a point from the encounter.
As for Newcastle, they have already been relegated to the Championship and have nothing to play for except pride.
Owen has backed Rafael Benitez’s side to hold Tottenham to a draw at St. James’ Park, while expressing his concern with Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Southampton at White Hart Lane last weekend.
“There is certainly plenty at stake in the Newcastle v Tottenham game,” the former Newcastle striker wrote on Colossusbets.com. “Granted, Newcastle are already down after Sunderland’s 3-0 defeat of Everton on Wednesday night but Tottenham fans will never forgive their team if they lose this game and Arsenal beat Villa to pip them to second spot by a point.
“It would be a travesty if that happened, the way Tottenham have played this season, but the weekend home loss to Southampton does concern you. But I think they will draw this game 1-1 and hold on to second on goals difference.”
Tottenham will be disappointed with the way they slipped up in the Premier League title race, but that is only going to motivate them for the game against Newcastle.
Spurs are a much better side than the Magpies, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side should have enough to win against the home team.
A second-placed finish in the Premier League this season would be a massive achievement for Tottenham.
