Aston Villa were relegated from the Premier League this season.
Aston Villa have been relegated from the Premier League this season after a disastrous campaign for them.
They struggled under Tim Sherwood and were not able to turn that around under his replacement Remi Garde in what proved to be a disastrous appointment.
The club is currently in turmoil, with the board in disarray and owner Randy Lerner keen to sell as soon as he can.
Many believe that the club needs to be rebuilt from top to bottom for them to make their way back to the Premier League, and Schwarzer says that job will be huge.
“I think’ it’s huge. You look at Aston Villa this season and how poorly they’ve performed,” he told Sky Sports.
“A lot of the players there are obviously either the club wants to get rid of or are knocking on the door to leave. I think there’s a huge process to be undertaken.”
“They still haven’t employed a manager and whoever comes into that job has a huge job of clearing up the mess that’s been left behind.”
The first major decision the club must make is appointing their next manager having failed to do so as yet.
There is firm belief that the club need an experienced Championship boss to take charge as the division will be a hard one for them to escape.
The current bookies' favourite is Roberto Di Matteo, but both Nigel Pearson and Steve Bruce are also reportedly in the mix.
