Lord Alan Sugar has suggested that Newcastle United’s relegation being confirmed is good news for Tottenham Hotspur.
Newcastle down. Might mean they have no will to fight Sunday against Spurs where we must win to stop Arsenal taking 2nd place .— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) May 11, 2016
Sunderland’s victory over Everton yesterday evening, ensured that Newcastle will be a Championship club next season.
The Magpies are now four points behind their North East rivals, with just one game remaining.
Newcastle’s last match comes against Tottenham Hotspur, and it now means a lot more to Mauricio Pochettino’s men than Rafael Benitez’s.
Tottenham are still locked in a battle for second place, as they look to hold off the challenge of Arsenal.
Spurs have only ever finished above the Gunners once before in the Premier League era.
To ensure that they repeat that feat again, Spurs need to avoid defeat at St. James’ Park, and that task could be easier now Newcastle have nothing but pride to play for.
Tottenham have failed to win any of their last three matches going into the final game of the season, while Newcastle were unable to beat rock bottom Aston Villa in their most recent outing.
