The Belgian striker is however insistent he remains focused on the job in hand at Liverpool.
Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea last night, with Belgian striker Christian Benteke reminding everyone of his aerial ability last night as he headed home Liverpool’s late equaliser at Anfield last night – albeit into an empty net and with a little help from Asmir Begovic.
Benteke however won’t care how he scored he will have just been pleased to have been on the pitch and finding the back of the net again after struggling to make a big impact at Liverpool this term, especially under Jurgen Klopp.
But his good news yesterday evening carried through to today. He earned a call-up to the Belgium national team for this summer’s European Championships in France.
After missing the 2014 World Cup with an Achilles tendon rupture the Liverpool striker will be looking forward to this more than most.
He sent out this Twitter message earlier today, celebrating his Belgium call-up, but not forgetting he still has a job to do with Liverpool:
Liverpool still have a Premier League game to play and the Europa League final and when Benteke says last games for Liverpool in his tweet he obviously means last games of the season.
But given the sparing use Klopp has found for him it might very well be that any appearance in these two fixtures might just be his last for Liverpool as well.
