Leigh Griffiths sends message to Celtic fans on Twitter after his historic season

Leigh Griffiths has written his name in the Celtic history books this season.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has taken to Twitter after scoring his 40th goal of the season against St Johnstone on Wednesday evening.

The Scottish hitman opened the scoring in the second half at McDiarmid Park, but Celtic conceded twice as Steven MacLean and Graham Cummins struck to hand St Johnstone a 2-1 win.

It was a disappointing result and performance for Celtic, but they have already wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title - and striker Griffiths made it a night to remember, even if only on a personal level.

The striker has been in superb form this season, and entered Wednesday's clash with 39 goals to his name, meaning he needed just one more for a historic 40-goal season - and he got that with the opening goal.

Earlier today, the Scotland international took to Twitter to send a message to the Celtic fans, telling them that he has loved every minute of the season, but felt the result at St Johnstone was a disappointing one.

Griffiths also celebrated winning five awards; PFA Player of the Year, SFWA Player of the Year, Celtic Player of the Year, Celtic Players' Player of the Year and Celtic's top goalscorer this season, admitting that this season has been 'madness' for him on a personal level.
