Newcastle United were relegated to the Championship on Wednesday evening as Sunderland beat Everton to secure their Premier League status.
It is the culmination of a disastrous campaign for the Magpies, who had struggled under Steve McClaren before Benitez helped mount a late survival bid.
The Spaniard has been greatly appreciated at the club since his arrival, but it is unknown whether he will stay as he has a break clause in his contract.
Balague though, says he is seriously considering remaining at St James’ Park and Newcastle fans should do their utmost to convince him.
It would certainly be an interesting development should Benitez decide to manager Newcastle in the Championship next season.
He would easily be the highest profile manager in the division, and surely make them favourites to make a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Conversely, he has no experience of such a league and that could be something that would hit the club hard despite his undeniable pedigree.
