Everton were comfortably beaten by Sunderland on Wednesday in the latest disappointing result for them.
They have endured a poor campaign in total, despite reaching two cup semi-finals, as they are set to finish 12th in the table and outside the top 10 for the second successive campaign.
That has put the pressure firmly on manager Roberto Martinez, with the Goodison Park faithful calling for his sacking as a result.
His style of football has been widely criticised, and Hinchcliffe says it is the major problem at the club.
“For me it’s the style of football the Everton fans aren’t happy with,” he told Sky Sports.
“They wanted to see a Plan B or Plan C and that hasn’t happened. He has a total football style, which I don’t think the players are comfortable playing with. “
“You have to be adaptable in the Premier League and Roberto and Everton aren’t.”
It will now be interesting to see if Martinez can keep his job at the club after such a disappointing campaign for them.
There is no denying that the fans have turned against him as they believe Everton, whose squad is one of the best they have had in of years, should be competing much higher.
Frank de Boer’s exit from Ajax has also heightened that pressure, with the Dutchman having been linked to the club in recent weeks.
