Report: Arsenal eye Celtic star Tom Rogic after McDermott recommendation

The Reading manager recommended the Celtic midfielder when he was a scout at Arsenal.

Arsenal are pursuing a deal for Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Rogic has been in fine form for Ronny Deila’s side this season, having managed seven goals in their Scottish Premiership success.

That makes him the club’s second highest goalscorer in the league this season, with Leigh Griffiths leading the way by some distance with 30.

And it transpires that Rogic's performances have not gone unnoticed, with the Gunners having reportedly monitored his progress for almost a year.

Their interest came after the player was recommended to them by Reading manager Brian McDermott, who was a scout at the Emirates before his return to manage the Royals.

According to the report from the Sydney Morning Herald, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could submit an offer for Rogic once the summer transfer window opens.

Arsenal are not the only ones interested in his services though, with the report claiming that clubs in both Spain and Italy are also monitoring him.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, and Celtic may be forced to cash in rather than losing him on a free transfer next summer.
