The former Croatia boss has been a huge hit at West Ham United this season.
The Croatian has been a huge hit at the Hammers since replacing Sam Allardyce at the club in the summer.
They have enjoyed a fine first campaign under his leadership, currently sitting sixth in the table and likely to secure European football for next season.
That would be a fine thing to offer next season as they move to the Olympic Stadium, and Thompson believes that Bilic deserves praise for the fantastic story they have enjoyed this season.
“What Bilic has done is quite extraordinary,” he told Sky Sports. “Payet and Lanzini, giving them license to go and express themselves the way they want to, Kouyate who has been absolutely terrific.
“All those things, Bilic has brought the best out of them. It’s been a fantastic story and Bilic deserves praise.”
Bilic will now be hoping he can build on this impressive first year by adding well in the summer transfer window to continue their upward trajectory next year.
The move to the Olympic Stadium appears to have given West Ham added power to go out and spend, and the signals from the club seem to be that they will do just that.
A striker is likely to be their main priority, with rumours already linking them to several top forwards across Europe.
