The winger has been in impressive form for Newcastle United in the last month.
The winger had initially struggled this season, spending the first half of the campaign in the reserves at Tottenham Hotspur.
He moved to Newcastle United in January, and after a slow start has been the star man in the last month as they have mounted a late bid for Premier League survival.
That has sparked talk of a return to the England squad for Euro 2016, especially considering the injury to Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
And Le Tissier says he is in a great position to try to convince Roy Hodgson he is worth a place in his squad.
“The boy is in form at the moment and given his side a little chance of survival,” he told talkSPORT.
“He’s probably been Newcastle’s star performer since he’s gone there in January. Obviously any injuries and he’s put himself in the manager’s thinking, he’s put himself in a great position.”
A big boost to Townsend’s hopes is the fact that Roy Hodgson is well known for sticking by certain players he trusts.
Townsend has been among those in the past, having been a star man on the international stage for England before now.
A further boost for the Newcastle player is the fact his main rivals have not exactly been star performers this season, with Raheem Sterling in particular struggling this year.
