West Ham hosted Manchester United at Upton Park on Tuesday evening in the final ever game at the stadium.
They gave it a fitting send off too, as they went on to secure a 3-2 win over Louis van Gaal’s side.
They had to come back to do so, with a late header from Winston Reid seeing them manage to fight back from 2-1 down to secure all three points.
It was a scintillating game of football, and Souness has hailed the Hammers' ability to fight and play at the same time.
"West Ham deserved to win the game,” he told Sky Sports.
"Normally West Ham would come and play football against you. This team now are capable of going to war with you - but if you want to play football they can mix it as well. This lot are raw.”
Unfortunately for West Ham, a top four finish is still unlikely given the massive swing in goal difference behind Manchester City.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are only three points ahead but have a 15-goal advantage in the goal difference.
Nonetheless, the win all but secures a top six finish this season if they can win their final game also, and that is a fine conclusion to a superb first campaign under manager Slaven Bilic.
