Report: Tottenham Hotspur willing to make Saul Niguez their top earner

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to invest in their current squad over the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez their highest paid player to try and convince him to join in the summer.

Saul has enjoyed a wonderful campaign at Atletico, and he has become one of the most sought after prospects in European football.

The 21-year-old has not only shown great ability going forward, but he has also proven capable of defending.

Both those qualities are important in Mauricio Pochettino’s style, and Saul is, therefore, believed to be one of the North London’s side’s top targets.

Saul’s addition would certainly be a statement of intent from Spurs, as they aim to ensure that they retain their place in the Champions League.

Spurs have broken into the top four this season, and they will want to keep challenging for the Premier League title in the years ahead.

Spurs are now reportedly prepared to offer Saul nearly £200,000-a-week to join them, which would make him their top earner by a considerable distance.

Saul’s release clause in his contract at Atletico stands at £36 million, but the Spanish club are also believed to be eager to offer him a new deal, so Tottenham may need to act quickly to get the transfer over the line.
