Ray Parlour has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 11th May, that Roberto Martinez’s comments about Everton’s match against Sunderland this evening are non-sensical.
Martinez promised Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez that Everton would not ‘roll over’ at the Stadium of Light, like they had in their most recent match against Leicester City.
And Parlour has slated Martinez’s comments, with the former Arsenal midfielder suggesting that the Spanish boss has got plenty of decisions wrong this term.
“What a poor performance at Leicester. It’s a tough place to play, but they just didn’t turn up,” he said.
“What kind of message is that? Certain things that have happened [have been worrying], like the Baines situation. Baines was right, but he had to apologise. There were so many things which have gone on which haven’t been good for Everton.”
Everton have collapsed in recent weeks, with their season now looking like petering out.
The Toffees had hoped to make it into the FA Cup final, but their defeat to Manchester United has rounded off a thoroughly miserable campaign.
Everton have now won just one in their last nine matches in all competitions, and they have dropped into 12th place in the Premier League.
Their fixture against Sunderland looks set to be a very tough match too, as Sam Allardyce’s side can confirm their Premier League status for another season if they grab a victory.
