Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has his say on Simon Mignolet's future

The goalkeeper divides opinion at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp will be looking to make his own additions to the current Liverpool team this summer as the current squad remains assembled by his predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

One position which is continually linked with change is in goal.

Simon Mignolet has had an erratic career at Anfield although he was recently handed a new contract at the club and Klopp appears happy with the player.

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has spoken about the goalkeeping position today. He told Sky Sports News HQ (11/05/16):

“This is the thing; we saw at the weekend Mignolet make a match-winning save.

“But it is how he commands his box and sometimes with his feet. That can be down to the manager wanting him to pass it out from the back which puts the boy under pressure.

“That will be an area everyone will be looking at. Will he change Mignolet or keep him as his number one. I think we’ll see pretty soon.”

Mignolet certainly has his moments, both bad and good, and it could be that Klopp might seek someone more consistent to take his place as starting stopper.

However, regardless of whether he sees Mignolet as a starter or not another keeper would be a good idea from Liverpool.

Adam Bogdan is simply not cut out for the Premier League and Danny Ward is still only very young.

Another goalie must be one of the options running through Klopp’s mind ahead of the summer as he looks to bring his own players into the current side and build on his side’s impressive recent form
