Newcastle have been relegated from the Premier League following Sunderland’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Everton at the Stadium of Light this evening.
Norwich City and Aston Villa will join the Magpies in the second tier of English football next season.
Former Newcastle midfielder Barton has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The former Queens Park Rangers man, who will play in the Premier League next season with Burnley, believes that the Magpies will be back.
Gutted I won't get the chance to play at St James's Park next season. Premier League will be poorer for 50,000+ Geordies every other week.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) 11 May 2016
Relegation may act as a catalyst at boardroom level. Because they are not currently worthy of being the custodians of such a great club.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) 11 May 2016
Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs in England, and their relegation to the Championship will be a massive disappointment to the fans.
It will be hard for the Magpies to get promotion back to the Premier League straightaway, as the Championship is a hugely competitive and tough league.
