Joey Barton hits out at West Ham attention

Joey Barton believes the media gave too much attention to West Ham's last game at Upton Park.

All the attention last night was on West Ham's match with Manchester United, the final ever game to be played at Upton Park.

The scoreline became immaterial to the event, at least that is what the build up to the match suggested, with the Hammers leaving 112 years of history at the stadium behind.

They will move into the Olympic Stadium next season, substantially increasing their capacity, and revenue.

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton took to Twitter, to complain that he felt the attention being given to the stadium's last game was over the top, comparing it with Arsenal and Manchester City leaving their grounds previously.

It's doubtful Barton would have made his comments had he been successful in clinching a move to West Ham last summer.

He came close to signing for the Hammers as a free agent only for the club to pull the plug on the deal due to a fan backlash, The Mail reported.

Next season he will visit the Olympic Stadium with Burnley, after signing with the Championship side and helping them to win promotion.
