Charlie Nicholas backs Tottenham Hotspur to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino

Tottenham Hotspur have chased West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino over the past few transfer windows.

Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur should sign West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino in the summer transfer window.

Spurs have been linked with Berahino for a considerable amount of time, but they have not been able to get a deal over the line.

Tottenham currently have a dearth of strikers in their squad, with Harry Kane their only recognised senior forward.

And Nicholas believes that the time has come for Spurs to invest in their squad, with a striker and a centre-back needed to make them regular title contenders.

“If Spurs are to kick on they are going to have to be able to adapt to play with two strikers when they're chasing games, so they need another proper striker," he said.

“They need somebody who can come in and play up alongside Harry Kane.

“They've obviously been linked with Saido Berahino and if they sort out his mind then he could be their man.

“They also need another defender. Kevin Wimmer did well when he came in but top sides need two players in each position, which they don't have in that area.”

Tottenham’s lack of striking options off the bench has cost them this season, but they have been fortunate in the sense that Kane has not picked up an injury.

Kane has blasted in 25 goals this season, but it widely expected that Spurs will chase another front man in the summer.

Whether they return for Berhahino remains to be seen, but the has been on their wishlist before.

Berahino has had a disappointing campaign for West Brom this time around, and he has only scored seven goals in all competitions.
