Michael Bridges lets Leeds fans know his thoughts on Ronaldo Vieira opportunity

Former Leeds star thrilled to see teenager given first team chance.

Former Leeds United star Michael Bridges has expressed his delight at seeing youngster Ronaldo Vieira handed a first team appearance.

The 17-year-old made his debut for the Whites at the weekend, coming on the final minutes of the game away at Preston North End, a 1-1 draw.

The extravagantly named youngster has impressed for the under-18s and under-21s this season and days earlier signed a two-year contract.

Ex-striker Michael Bridges commented on Twitter on Monday evening to praise the club for continuing to give young players opportunities.

During a decade of on and off field strife, Leeds have kept their identity of bringing young players through, and that does not look like changing, with Lewie Coyle and Bailey Peacock-Farrell also making breakthroughs this season.

Kalvin Phillips, Tyler Denton, Eoghan Stokes, Frank Mulhern and Mallik Wilks are among the names hoping to also make the jump, while Vieira and Coyle will want to build on their progress this season.

Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor are must picks for the first team while Alex Mowatt is also a valuable part of the squad.

Potentially outgoing head coach Steve Evans deserves praise for being willing to use the youngsters, even if it was more of a gesture at the end of the season in Ronaldo Vieira's case, but his faith will go a long way in inspiring the player and others that they too can make it.
