HITC Sport understands talks took place before last week's decider
One of Middlesbrough's first actions after being promoted to the Premier League will be to secure the future of midfield ace Gaston Ramirez, HITC Sport understands.
The Uruguay star is currently on-loan at Boro from Southampton, but he won't be returning to St Mary's as his £70,000-a-week contract expires this summer.
He took a dent in his wage packet to make the temporary switch to The Riverside, but HITC Sport understands that Boro have already offered him a bumper deal to pen a permanent contract with them.
Ramirez has fielded offers from China as well as from back in Serie A after starring their for two-years with Bologna - but Boro are hopeful that he will commit his future to them.
Ramirez is known to have settled well in the North East, where he has two fellow Uruguayans alongside him in the shape of Cristhian Stuani and Carlos De Pena.
Now Boro have cemented their place back in the top-flight, they are keen to build on that success and they want the Ramirez deal finalised before he heads off back to his native South America, where he is set to feature in the Copa America with Uruguay.
