There is fierce debate about Wilshere at present and whether Roy Hodgson should select him in his Euro 2016 squad.
The midfielder has missed the majority of the season through injury, but is now back fully fit and competing in the Arsenal first team.
The Three Lions boss has appeared determined to take him to France for a while, but given his injury record there are questions whether it would be a wise move.
Murphy though, believes he should go because he has the big-game mentality that Steven Gerrard had.
“I think it is the right thing to take him because he is so special,” he told London 24.
“He has a big-game mentality and is never in awe of who he plays against, a bit like Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere will not be fazed by a big game and I would take him purely because of that.”
There is no denying that Wilshere has more ability than several of the other players competing for an England place.
Most importantly he is able to take the game to the opponent, something the likes of Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier are not as adept at doing.
For that reason alone, Hodgson may be considering risking him despite the concerns over his injury record.
