Liverpool have been linked with Roma’s on-loan defender Antonio Rudiger.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are weighing up a bid for Roma loanee Antonio Rudiger.

The Italian report claims that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the German centre-back, and they could rival Chelsea for his signature with a £15 million bid this summer.

The Reds have experienced a somewhat inconsistent campaign this season, reaching finals in both the League Cup and Europa League but often letting themselves down in the Premier League.

The defence has largely been a problem all season, and Mamadou Sakho’s latest ban for failing a drugs test has only pushed the need to strengthen the club’s defensive options this summer.

A number of different players have been linked, and the latest to be accredited with a potential move to Anfield is Stuttgart’s Antonio Rudiger, currently on loan at Serie A side Roma.

The 23-year-old has made 29 Serie A appearances this season, averaging 3.2 clearances per league match.

He has earned international recognition with the German national team, making nine appearances for the 2014 World Cup winners since making his debut on the big stage two years ago.

With Kolo Toure now 35 and Martin Skrtel gradually losing his influence, Klopp needs to add a defender or two this summer and Rudiger appears the sort of player who would thrive on Merseyside.
