The report claims that Steve Walsh and assistant Craig Shakespeare have agreed on new deals at the club and will officially sign their contracts later this week after months of negotiations.
The club started the season as 5000-1 outsiders, yet Claudio Ranieri’s side have shown such spirit and togetherness during the campaign and tied up the title with two rounds of fixtures remaining.
Players such as Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante have all deservedly received plaudits for their roles this season, yet one key figure behind the scenes is arguably more important than the lot.
Steve Walsh is the man tasked with scouting and recruitment, and under his watch the likes of Kante, Mahrez, Shinji Okazaki, Christian Fuchs, Gokhan Inler and Daniel Amartey have all arrived at the club.
Chief scouts Rob Mackenzie and Ben Wrigglesworth have already been prized away by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively, but Walsh is set to stay which is a huge boost for Leicester.
The East Midlands club will now be seeking players to compete in next year’s edition of the Champions League, and doing so without Walsh or Shakespeare would make their task much more difficult.
Leicester are now in a position to buy big-name players which could boost revenue streams, but their best signings this summer would be keeping hold of the pivotal figures which have pieced everything together.
