Norwich and Newcastle look likely to join Aston Villa as the sides dropping out of England’s top flight this season, following Sunderland’s win over Chelsea last weekend.
The Black Cats need just one more win to secure their safety, and they could relegate both Newcastle and Norwich on Wednesday night if they are able to beat Everton in front of their own fans.
Being relegated would obviously be a major blow for both sides, but Pearce feels that Norwich have a squad which could bounce back immediately from the disappointment.
“I think Norwich have a decent squad in the Championship, they’ve signed some good players in January,” the former Nottingham Forest manager said.
“Newcastle, if they go down, they need some major surgery. New inspiration is needed and players that will come into the club hungry are needed.”
For Norwich and Newcastle to avoid the drop now, it would take a miraculous escape.
Not only would they need Sunderland to completely fall apart, but they would likely have to take maximum points from their remaining fixtures.
Norwich have two games left in their season, which come against Watford and Everton.
Newcastle, meanwhile, take on Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in their last match of the season and that looks set to be a tough test.
