Aston Villa are set to play in the Championship next season.
The Villans are set to drop into the second flight at the end of this season after a dismal campaign in the Premier League.
They are a club in turmoil at present, with the board in disarray and owner Randy Lerner determined to sell as soon as possible.
Many are predicting that next year could be another disappointing one, too, with the general belief being that the squad is not good enough to compete.
Regardless of that, their fans are still going to be turning up at Villa Park to watch their side, and Black believes they will be the club’s biggest asset moving forward.
"This club needs its supporters. It's an unbelievable support,” he told avfc.co.uk. "The Villa fans have got a big part to play in getting this club back to the Premier League."
First and foremost the club must go some way to getting the fan base back on their side after the calamity of this season.
They can do that by making decisions that the supporters can recognise are in the best interests of the club moving forward and returning to the top flight.
The first of those would surely be hiring their next manager, and making it a good one, with Nigel Pearson the current bookies favourite.
