Report: Rangers want defender Paulus Arajuuri, face Premier League competition

Rangers are reportedly keen on Lech Poznan centre back Paulus Arajuuri.

According to Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy, Rangers are interested in signing Lech Poznan centre back Paulus Arajuuri this summer.

The Gers have sealed promotion to the Scottish Premiership, and whilst Mark Warburton has enjoyed a superb first season in charge at Ibrox, he will still need some major additions to his squad this summer.

Accrington Stanley's promising young duo Matt Crooks and Josh Windass are both heading to Glasgow having signed pre-contract agreements with Rangers in January, but manager Warburton will be hoping to bring some established players to strengthen his side too.

One area which could be strengthened is in the heart of defence, where first-choice duo Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson have little competition or cover once Dominic Ball's loan deal from Tottenham comes to an end this summer.

Now, Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy report that Lech Poznan centre back Paulus Arajuuri is attracting plenty of interest - with Rangers one team believed to be keen.

The Finland international, 27, stands at a giant 6ft 4in tall, possesses great strength and aerial ability as an imposing central defender, and joined Lech Poznan from Swedish side Kalmar in 2014.

Now though, it's claimed that Rangers - who snapped up goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski from Lech Poznan in January - are keen to swoop on the Polish side again to land Arajuuri this summer, but they will face huge competition.

Other clubs named in the race for his signature are Premier League-bound Burnley, Cardiff City, Chievo, Bologna, FC Zurich, Midtjylland, Spartak Moscow and Terek Grozny.

With huge competition, Rangers may not be at the front of the queue for Arajuuri, but fans should be encouraged that the Gers are casting their net far and wide in the search of new signings.
