Henri Saivet has made little impact since joining Newcastle in January.
The Magpies went to Villa Park in search of a vital win, but surprisingly came back with just a point after a disappointing 0-0 draw against already-relegated Villa.
That result, coupled with Sunderland's 3-2 win over Chelsea, means that Newcastle now face a real struggle to stay in the Premier League, and they could even be relegated to the Championship if Sunderland manage to beat Everton on Wednesday evening.
With Tottenham travelling to St. James' Park on Sunday for the final game of the season, manager Benitez has decisions to make with his team selection - but one player faces a battle to even make the squad.
The Chronicle report that Benitez left out French midfielder Henri Saivet from his squad at Villa as he didn't impress in training, and didn't even take part in certain drills as Benitez left him out completely.
Saivet, 25, joined the Magpies from Bordeaux back in January, but has played just 148 minutes of action, and hasn't featured at all under Benitez.
Saivet's dream move to the Premier League is turning sour, and having failed to impress Benitez last week, he may not be in contention for a place in the squad against Tottenham this weekend either - and he must be wondering whether leaving Bordeaux was a huge mistake.
Do you think Saivet should get a chance against Tottenham?
