Sunderland will take on Everton at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.
A win for the Black Cats at home will see them retain their top-flight status for next season, and many observers will back them for all three points.
Owen, though, believes that Sam Allardyce’s side will fail to win against the Toffees, and has backed Roberto Martinez’s team to at least pick up a point at the Stadium of Light.
“The Black Cats have given themselves a terrific chance of avoiding the drop and victory against Everton would see them confirmed as playing Premier League football next term; Everton, however, can only improve on what we saw at the King Power on Saturday and I think they will get at least a point,” the former Liverpool and Manchester United striker wrote on Betvictor.com.
A footnote added: “Michael’s recommendation: Everton double chance (to win or draw) at 11/10.”
Sunderland will head into the game on the back of a stunning 3-2 victory over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.
Not many would have expected the Black Cats to defeat last season’s Premier League champions, and the fans will now be very confident of survival.
Allardyce’s side have their destiny in their own hands, and they should fancy their chances against Everton.
The Merseyside outfit have a better team than Sunderland, but their recent performances and results have not been great.
