Ian Wright delivers his verdict on Mauricio Pochettino's recent comments about Tottenham Hotspur finishing ahead of Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur are currently in a battle for second place with Arsenal.

Ian Wright has told The Sun Goals Podcast that he fully supports Mauricio Pochettino’s comments, where he suggested that he did not care about Tottenham Hotspur finishing ahead of Arsenal.

Spurs are locked in a battle for second spot in the Premier League this season with their North London rivals.

Tottenham have only once before finished ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League era, but Pochettino insists that sealing the local bragging rights should not be the main focus for his side.

"I think that I don't care about Arsenal, I want to win the league, I want to be on top but Arsenal I do not care about,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

The Argentine boss’s comments have been controversial, and even Tottenham striker Harry Kane seemed to have a differing opinion.

However, Wright believes that Pochettino is changing the mentality at White Hart Lane.

“I think Pochettino is changing the mindset,” the former Arsenal striker said.

“He’s showing them, we’ve got bigger fish to fry. Finishing above Arsenal doesn’t win you anything. I totally agree with Pochettino - he doesn’t need to worry about Arsenal. He wanted to win this league, which is more important.

“This is a different kind of Spurs. They have some fight in them.”

Spurs have failed to win any of their last three matches, which has given Arsenal some hope of catching them in the standings.

Spurs still have a two point advantage over their local rivals, but they have work to do to ensure that they finish ahead of the Gunners.

Tottenham need to avoid defeat on the final day of the season against Newcastle United, with Arsenal set to face Aston Villa.
