Liverpool hosted Watford at Anfield on Sunday as they looked to build on a positive week that included a Europa League semi final win.
They did just that, as goals from Joe Allen and Roberto Firmino saw them to a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Hornets.
As a result of a busy schedule, Jurgen Klopp made a number of changes to his team for the game, and midfielder Stewart was one of those that came in.
He put in an impressive display too, and Thompson was keen to praise him.
"Kevin Stewart has been fantastic, very composed. He's dictated a lot of the play and it's been a very mature performance,” he told BBC Sport.
Stewart will now be hoping there are more chances for him as the season draws to a close.
Klopp is likely to keep rotating his squad to keep his side fresh ahead of the Europa League final against Sevilla.
That will surely give Stewart further opportunities to impress, and he has certainly done his hopes no harm in the games he has played so far, with Watford the latest of several impressive games.
