Report: Benitez and Martinez want Villarreal starlet Ivan Alejo after snubbing Celtic offer

Everton and Newcastle are reportedly interested in Villarreal forward Ivan Alejo.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Everton and Newcastle United are both keen on signing Villarreal winger Ivan Alejo this summer.

Both Everton and Newcastle are managed by Spanish bosses right now, but questions surround the long-term futures of Roberto Martinez and Rafael Benitez respectively.

However, if both men do keep their jobs this summer, reports in Spain suggest that they could in fact target the same player, with Villarreal's Alejo on their radars.

Marca claim that, after helping Villarreal B win the 2015–16 Premier League International Cup last week, Alejo's performances have caught the eye of a host of clubs, with Everton and Newcastle both keen to lure him to England, though they face competition from Porto.

Predominantly a right-sided winger with an eye for goal, Alejo is allegedly a long-term target of his compatriot Martinez, whilst he even snubbed offers to join Celtic and Queens Park Rangers in order to join Villarreal from Atletico Madrid last summer.

At 21, Alejo will have a big decision to make. Villarreal have some talented wingers in their ranks with Denis Suarez, Samu Castillejo, Samuel, Jonathan dos Santos and Nahuel Leiva all vying for places, and if an English team can offer Alejo a better chance of first-team football, he may well leave El Madrigal this summer - though much could depend on the futures of Benitez and Martinez.
