Owen Hargreaves said on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (broadcast from 10am, May 7) that he would move to Tottenham Hotspur rather than Manchester United if he were playing now.
“I think now if I was a player and I could pick any team in this country to play for, I would go to Spurs,” said Hargreaves on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 1 on Saturday morning (broadcast from 10am, May 7).
“I think they are building something special. I think they have a great young team. I think they have a brilliant manager, stadium, training ground. I think United are, right, now a little bit in danger of being that first option for a lot of these players.”
United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a global superpower, but they have been in decline ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
The Red Devils still retain the aura and the appeal to attract top players, but lack of Champions League football next season could be deterrent in signing big-name stars.
Tottenham are having a great season and could finish as high as second in the Premier League this season.
The North London outfit have a long way to go before they can match United in terms of global attraction, but they are certainly a club that can start to think big.
