The Spaniard is all set to leave Arsenal for free this summer.
This week has seen the future of Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta heavily discussed. The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City to join the coaching staff of incoming boss Pep Guardiola, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The former Everton player is out of contract in the summer and has battled injury trouble this season.
But could a certain appointment at Celtic see him make a controversial Old Firm return?
David Moyes is still a front-runner for the Celtic job and he and Arteta have a fantastic relationship from their time working together at Everton.
If Moyes was to take the Celtic job then surely a free Arteta would make the radar.
But it would be a controversial switch – as Arteta has previously played for Old Firm rivals Rangers.
Arteta spent two successful seasons at Ibrox after spells at Barcelona and Paris Saint-German before leaving Glasgow for hometown club Real Sociedad in 2004.
Despite his links to Rangers a move to Celtic could be perfect for Arteta. He would be able to continue playing regular football, in the Champions League and under a manager he knows very well.
Rangers fans would certainly not like it but if Moyes takes the Celtic job surely Arteta would be tempted to join Celtic and risk Ibrox fury?
