Stoke City have embarked on an exciting new journey, going into partnership with Orlando City.

Stoke City have made the announcement of a new strategic partnership with MLS side Orlando City, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Potters' chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website of the thinking behind the deal:

"It's an opportunity for us to share best practice with Orlando in a variety of areas, primarily in player recruitment, marketing and development, but also to give both clubs chance to grow in each other's markets."

The new partnership could open the door to more American stars making the move across the pond to the Premier League, and Scholes spoke of the hope that their new venture will ensure that Stoke City progress even further from an already established position:

“As an established Premier League club we are always looking at new ways to develop our profile overseas and our strategic partnership will help us to develop in the United States.”

Orlando City founder and President Phil Rawlins had words of high praise for Stoke and spoke of his excitement at the new partnership:

“It was very clear that we’ve always had a good relationship with Stoke City and it came down to us wanting to reignite that synergy and bring our brands closer together. This will be our only partnership in England, and we hope to ignite passions for both our clubs in each other’s markets.”

Stoke City have enjoyed a successful season in the Premier League and currently sit 10th in the table. They will, however, be looking to make further progress next season, and hopefully for them, their new venture will assist in their efforts.

The Potters slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace today, but will be looking to finish their season on a high as they host West Ham United on the final day of the season.
