Leeds drew 1-1 at Preston North End earlier today.
Leeds United played their final game of the season today and drew 1-1 with Preston North End.
Once again it was a game that Leeds will feel that they could have won.
Leeds took a late lead through Chris Wood’s penalty but once again conspired against themselves, with Scott Wootton having a moment to forget once again.
The defender is unpopular with the Leeds fans and it was his mistake that allowed Jordan Hugill the chance to give Preston an equaliser.
Leeds have often made such mistakes throughout the campaign and once again they did so.
It left former Leeds striker Noel Whelan extremely frustrated. He said on BBC Leeds:
“It's the story of the season.
“I don't know how many goals they've gifted through lack of concentration but we've seen another one today.
“It's a sad way to end the season. We haven't lost but you look back at all the points we've dropped through bad management this year - it's another one today.”
The end of their season may also be the end of Steve Evans’ management at the club.
The Scot is out of contract with the club this summer and it has been rumoured that Massimo Cellino wants to replace him.
After the game Evans applauded the away fans in a potential farewell fashion and Whelan also commented on his future:
He is loving this job and who wouldn't want to be Leeds manager?
“The end of the seasion is always emotional and it may be that he doesn't know where his future lies.
“It's a shame we didn't get the win but it's a great way to finish and build on for next season.”
Leeds have certainly improved under Evans and it would seem he deserves a chance to have a full season with the club.
Leeds fans will now be settling in for what will likely be an eventful summer, waiting to see who will lead the team into next season.
