Manchester United hero Gary Pallister believes that the Red Devils should be looking to sign Tottenham star Harry Kane, and claimed that it would be difficult for any player to turn down a move to Old Trafford, the Daily Star reports.
United are currently fifth in the Premier League table, and in serious danger of missing out on a coveted spot in the top four. And Pallister - who won four league titles with the club - suggested that they need to sign the England forward, or someone like Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski, to get back towards the top, and believes that the lure of playing for the side will make up for the potential lack of Champions League football.
"Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski are the kind of players United could look at," he told the Star.
"It's hard to get players if you don't qualify for the Champions League but if there's a chance to play for Manchester United, you'd be foolish to pass that up," he added.
While Pallister is confident that not playing in Europe's biggest competition will not put potential targets off, it is difficult to imagine that either Kane or Lewandowski will relish the prospect of leaving their particular clubs for United.
Both players have established themselves as the focal points of their sides. And while Kane's Spurs team narrowly missed out on the title to Leicester City, the Poland international won the Bundesliga crown last year at the Allianz Arena, and appears set to do it again next term.
And having watched players like Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay both struggle to make an impact following their respective moves, it seems unlikely that either player would currently see a move to Manchester United as a step in the right direction.
